Who am I ?

BAPT Licensed Therapist

My name is Jane Hussell, I am a BAPT registered play therapist with over 20 years of experience working with children and families.  Prior to training to be a play therapist I worked in education as a senco, a class teacher, assistant headteacher and early years leader.  I am passionate about supporting children and families to grow and develop, and I truly believe that play therapy can make a real difference to children’s lives.  In my therapy room I provide a creative space and allow children the freedom to express themselves, exploring any challenges they might be experiencing.

I can provide therapy in schools in North London and Hertfordshire and in my private practice playroom in St Albans.

I work in a child-centred way, giving children the freedom to direct their own play, and trusting them know what they need to explore for growth and change to take place.

I have a particular interest in supporting neurodivergent children, including autism, ADHD and PDA.  I can also work with children who have experienced emotional challenges as a result of attachment issues, anxiety, behaviour that challenges, medical issues, trauma, domestic violence, emotional abuse, neglect, separation, loss, and divorce.

I hold the following qualifications:

  • MA Play Therapy (Distinction)
  • BSc Psychology (2:1)
  • PGCE (Primary)

Why choose a BAPT (British Association of Play Therapists) therapist?

By choosing a BAPT therapist you can trust that the therapist has successfully completed a rigorous master’s level training programme, abides by strict ethical standards and receives supervision from an experienced BAPT supervisor. A BAPT therapist is required to have had previous experience of working with children and must have undergone two years of personal therapy. BAPT therapists must have up to date safeguarding training and are DBS checked.

What to expect ?

Following a free 20-minute phone consultation, an initial meeting with parents/caregivers is arranged. This usually lasts for about an hour, and it is a chance for me to find out about your child and for parents to find out more about the therapy and ask any questions they may have.

Sessions will then take place once a week at a set time and will last for 50 minutes. A minimum of 12 sessions is usually required and review meetings are held every 6 weeks.

How much does it cost ?

Sessions cost between £60-80 an hour and are payable prior to each session, this includes review meetings and the initial hour consultation.  Some schools have a therapy budget, and I am able to provide a full or half-day rate for schools so please enquire for further information.
